May 25, 1929 – August 28, 2024
William Clyde Smith, age 95, of Monticello, KY, passed away August 28, 2024. He was born May 25, 1929, in Richwood, West Virginia, the son of the late Jasper and Jerrie Alexander Smith. He attended school in several communities in Wayne County. The first being at Bethesda, followed by Carr Bend, and then Mill Springs. He said they traveled to Wayne County High School for 8th Grade Graduation.
He accepted Christ at an early age at the Mill Springs Methodist Church. He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War with boots on the Ground in Korea for 11 months attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was one of the founding partners in WPM Mfg., Inc. responsible for making blue jeans and outerwear. Providing jobs for many here in the county for over 18 years. Clyde was a jack of all trades. He loved making things work and he did an excellent job of that.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patricia Burkhart Smith, daughter, Patsy (Michael) Blevins, sons, Donnie (Charlotte) East, Tony (Melissa) East, Johnny (Kim) East, Rocky East, and son-in-law, Mike Martin, 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, sister, Virginia Smith Green, brother Lawrence (Jayne) Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Velma Reynolds Smith, his daughters, Donna Loukes, Susie Martin, and Sherri Evans, son, David East, grandson, Clyde Campbell, great-great grandson, Theo Campbell, sister, Geneva Smith Reynolds and brothers, Carl and Ralph Smith.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, between 5 pm – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Mill Springs Christian Church Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by our local DAV Chapter 105.
