A graduate of Wayne County High School, Roger enjoyed playing basketball during his school years for the Wayne County Bovines. After high school, Roger went on to basic training with the National Guard where he served for several years. He later worked for many years at Belden before retiring. Retirement, however, never slowed him down. Roger loved carpentry and could often be found building, fixing, or improving something. He took great pride in working with his hands and was always willing to lend his skills to help family, friends, and neighbors.

Roger was a faithful and devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he served for more than 50 years. In recognition of his lifelong dedication and service, he was honored with the title of Deacon Emeritus. Throughout his life, Roger faithfully participated in church ministries, committees, and work projects, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. His faith was not only something he believed—it was something he lived every day through his service, kindness, and dedication to others.

A scripture that beautifully reflects Roger's life and service is: “For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Timothy 3:13

Roger will be remembered for his kind heart, strong faith, and willingness to help anyone in need. He loved rabbit hunting and especially enjoyed listening to his beagle dogs run. He was a lifelong Kentucky Wildcats fan.

He also loved traveling with Odie and spending time with friends. Through their many trips with Shockey Tours, they made countless memories, shared many laughs, and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Those who knew Roger knew a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and never met a stranger. He was a steady presence in the lives of his family, always willing to offer a helping hand, a kind word, or quiet support when it was needed most.

His life was a testament to faith, family, service, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
