"Bob" Hayden
July 5, 1937 – August 11, 2020
William Robert "Bob" Hayden was born July 5, 1937 and departed this life Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at his home, reaching the age of 83 years. He was the son of the late Walter and Nell Hayden Spradlin.
On June 7, 1960 he married Patricia Elam, who preceded him in death on March 19, 2000, and to this union two children were born.
He is survived by his children, Robert Allen (Lisa) Hayden and Pam (Tim) Dalton; grandchildren, Sherry (Chad) Edwards, Leslie Hayden, Sean Hayden, Molly Dalton; 5 great granddaughters and special friend, Lois Taylor. Also surviving is his brother, Ralph Hayden, nieces, Shawnda Hayden Jones, Jana (Bill) Rubin, all of Atlanta, Ga.
Bob had a successful career spanning 49 years with the Monticello Banking Company. He began his career in 1967 and held various positions. In April 1996 Bob retired as executive vice president of the bank and president of Bank of Clinton County. The remaining 20 years, Bob served on the board of directors of Monticello Bank and Monticello Bankshares. In April 2019, Bob was honored by the bank for his combined dedicated service.
Bob also spent many hours in community service to Monticello and the Lake Cumberland area. He was a longtime member of the Monticello Lions Club. He served as board member on the lake Cumberland Housing Agency and the Lake Cumberland Area Development District. He especially enjoyed serving Monticello as Chairman of the Electric Plant Board and Chairman of the Elk Spring Cemetery Board. He was awarded the Key to the City of Monticello by then Mayor Kenneth Catron in 1997, as recognition of his dedicated service.
As a lifelong member of the Monticello First Christian Church, Bob served the Lord and his church family as deacon and treasurer. He was honored with the position as Deacon Emeritus in 2010.
In retirement, Bob and Lois loved spending their time traveling. Many of their weekends were spent in Louisville enjoying Churchill Downs and the Actor's Theatre. His favorite place to travel was "out west", especially enjoying the sites of Nevada and Washington state. From their trips to San Diego, Florida, Vancouver, and Chicago, they enjoyed their retirement travels to the fullest.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 13, 2020 between 6 pm-8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14, 2020 at 10 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Christian Church Building Program.
