Wilburn “Oral” Catron (OC)

Wilburn “Oral” Catron, also known as OC, was born on August 20, 1947, and departed this life on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the age of 78. He was the son of the late Lillian (Catron) Poynter.

Oral dedicated many years of service to Cobb before retiring. He was known as a hardworking man, a loyal friend, and someone who never met a stranger. His kind heart, welcoming spirit, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his children: Cindy Culp (Bryan), Gilford Catron, Amber Morrow, Trisha Daley (Jerry), Payton Beckum, and Katlin and Kayle Houp; his companion, Heather Beckum; his grandchildren: Wesley and Michael Neal, Jeffery, Joseph, and Lillian Morrow, Brianna and Heather Catron, Bryant Culp (Toni), Mark, Kevin, Michaela, and Nelson Culp; his great-grandchildren: Lily, Hollie, and Murphy Culp; his aunt, Mary Frost; along with a host of cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

In addition to his mother, Lillian Poynter, he was preceded in death by his 2 grandchildren, Daniel and Noel.

To many children beyond his own family, Oral was simply “Grandpa.” Being an honorary grandpa brought him immense joy, and he treasured the relationships he built with countless young people throughout his life. His kindness, gentle nature, and generous heart made him a friend to all who met him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel.
