Velma Taylor was born June 15, 1938 and departed this life Monday, May 9, 2011 reaching the age of 72. She was the daughter of the late John Elza and Willie Mae (Moran) Rogers.

She was united in marriage to Daniel Taylor on October 28, 1952 and to this union 4 children were born.

She is survived by: her husband, Daniel Taylor; 2 sons, Wilburn and David Taylor; 4 grandchildren, Angela Branham, Crystal Dunagan, Lelly Smith, and Eric Thomas; 8 grandchildren, Jenessa and Alyssa Dishman, Eric and Carolyn Thomas, Ebony and Ladamioen Branham, Christopher and Matthew Dungan; and 1 step grandchild, Dalton Floyd. She is also survived by: 3 brothers, James, Donald, and Arthur Rogers; 2 sisters, Hilda Reddick and Mary Lois Rogers; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, John and Willie Rogers, she was preceded in death by: 1 son, John Randolph Taylor; 1 daughter, Mary Catherine Thomas; 7 brothers, R.C., Dennis, Denver, Johnny, Jesse, Leeroy, and Eluw Rogers; and 2 sisters, Claire Rogers and Alice Taylor.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 11 am – 2 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, 2011 at 2 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Keith McKim officiating.
