Velma Lois Abbott was born September 9, 1920 and departed this life Tuesday, December 5, 2017 reaching the age of 97 years. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Mary Myrtle (Stephens) Zimmerman.

She married Andrew Ellis Abbott and to this union five children were born.

She is survived by: two sons, Lymon Abbott and Delbert Abbott; two daughters, Mary Kuhn and Joyce Eaton; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by: two brothers, Charlie and Carthal Zimmerman; and three sisters, Genebe Turner, Mae Toler and Kathryn Cummins; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by: one son, Bobby Joe Abbott; three brothers, Leland, George and Verdith Zimmerman; sister, Lue Dean along with two sisters that died in infancy; and three great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 7, 2017 between 6 pm – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 8, 2017 at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
