IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tommy Joe
Ramsey
July 13, 1947 – January 6, 2026
Tommy Joe Ramsey, 78, of Monticello, KY, departed this life to his eternal heavenly home on January 6, 2026. He was born July 13, 1947, to the late Roy and Edna (Guffey) Ramsey. He spent 55 happy years married to the love of his life, Barbara Sue Dean and to this union three children were born.
He is survived, sorrowfully mourned and joyously celebrated by: his wife, Barbara Ramsey; one son, Darin Ramsey; two daughters, Tonya Ramsey Abeln and Crystal Ramsey; and two grandchildren, Luke and Todd. He is also survived by: one brother, Rick Ramsey (Donna); and two sisters, Wanda Barber (Ron) and Geraldine Guffey (Jack); along with a host of family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one brother, Perry Roy Ramsey (Anna); and one sister, Linda Atkinson.
Tommy was a diligent man of God, a hard and dependable worker and a devoted family man with a playful and contagious sense of humor. He was an Army Veteran who served his country proudly as a military policeman. Even after a tragic construction accident left him with a permanent physical impairment at a young age, one that would have legally classified him as disabled, he never made a single excuse or complaint and continued to work as hard as a human can to support his family, establishing a long career with Belden Inc. while simultaneously farming the land he loved and raising animals until later in his life. Tommy nursed an insatiable passion for fishing and nature, finding beauty and interest in God's simplest gifts. Over the last decade, he thrived in his title promotion to "Papaw," and he proudly passed his curiosity and interest in nature to his grandsons. He was a kind and loving man, treating all he encountered with respect.
Though a bright light on earth has dimmed, a luminous star in the sky now shines upon us. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to be loved by him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2026, between 5 pm – 8 pm and Saturday, January 10, 2026, between 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Davis Chapel Cemetery.
Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mr. Ramsey and his family.
