Obituary

Tom Hardin Phillips was born on May 21, 1981, in Somerset, KY and departed this life July 26, 2024.

Tom is survived by his wife, Charissa, and two daughters, Mia Ashlyn and Charlotte Rose. He is also survived by his parents Hardin and Karen Phillips. Tom had one brother, David Bruce (Angela) and one nephew, Kendall.

Tom graduated from Wayne County High School in 2000 where he excelled in the classroom and on the basketball court. Tom was part of several successful basketball teams at Wayne County, and he was recognized for his outstanding play. He was selected on the All-District Tournament Team three times 1998, 1999, and 2000. Tom was also awarded the District Tournament MVP 1999, All Region 2000, Courier Journal All State Honorable Mention 2000, and 12th/13th Region All Star Game Slam Dunk Champion.

Tom was a member of the JROTC at Wayne County High School all four years. During his senior year, he was promoted to Battalion Commander. Tom joined the KY National Guard C Battery 1st Battalion 623rd Field Artillery between his junior and senior year of high school. After high school, he attended basic training in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina where he received a Leadership Award out of his company of four hundred soldiers. Tom was also awarded the Battery Soldier of the Year on October 14, 2001.

Tom was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University as well as a graduate of the Industrial Maintenance Program through KCTCS. After earning several degrees, he enjoyed working at the Trane Corporation in Lexington, KY and most recently Toyota Manufacturing in Georgetown, KY.

Tom was a follower of Jesus Christ. He was baptized on March 17, 1991. He was a long­time member at First Christian Church in Monticello, KY. At an early age Tom helped care for children in the nursery at FCC and he participated in a short-term mission trip to Mexico. In recent years, Tom and his family attended Southland Christian Church in Lexington, KY (Richmond Road Campus).

Tom will be sadly missed by all his family and friends who knew him and loved him.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 3, 2024, between 10 am – 2 pm at Monticello First Christian Church.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 2 pm at the Monticello First Christian Church. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by our local DAV Chapter 105.
