Obituary

Thomas Dale Troxell

Of Monticello Ky. Born September 10th, 1939. Passed away at Wayne County Hospital on February 28th, 2026, at 86 years of age.

Affectionately known as "Tommy" or "Smiley" He was most recognized from his daily walks to the City Pool Hall from his home on Race St. A tradition he maintained even at 86 until his health declined.

Tommy was a hard worker. Starting as a young boy he helped his grandfather on his farm where he learned to haul hay and hang tobacco. He continued working hard throughout his life. At 76 he was still push-mowing his own yard along with several neighbors. It was only upon Doctors orders he begrudgingly stopped.

Tommy was also a hero. He was just 9 yrs old when his mother's dress caught fire while cooking. Tommy quickly alerted his father Ned who was working on the farm by raising a flag. He then went back into the burning house and helped to pull his brothers and sisters from the blaze saving their lives and scaring his face with severe burns.

After his Father Ned remarried. Fronia Troxell stepped in and loved him, his brothers and sisters like her very own. Ned and Fronia went on to have 5 children of their own who carried on the love and support instilled by Fronia until his last days on earth ensuring he always had a home and was surrounded by people who loved and cared for him.

Most importantly Tommy was a man of God. He was named a Deacon at Monticello Baptist Tabernacle. Where he attended faithfully until his health no longer allowed him to. Prior to that he was also a long-standing member of Sandusky Chapel Baptist Church as well.

Tommy smiled and waved at every person he passed. He was easy to love and will be deeply missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is preceded in death by his Mother Marie Troxell, Father Ned Troxell and Stepmother Fronia Troxell. His brothers David and Paul Troxell and his Sisters Wanda Bryant, Elsie Troxell, Doris Malone, Linda Olivia, Brenda Bryant and Barbara Daffron.

He is survived by his sister Shirley Simpson along with several nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 6, 2026, between 10 am – 1 pm at Monticello Baptist Tabernacle.  Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, at 1 pm at the Monticello Baptist Tabernacle. Burial will be in the New Sandusky Cemetery.
