Shelby McGinnis was born May 11, 1922 and departed this life Thursday, May 17, 2012 reaching the age of 90 and six days. He was the son of the late Willie and Edna (Lowe) McGinnis.
He was united in marriage on November 2, 1944 to Bonnie Dishman and to this union 4 children were born.
He is survived by: 3 sons, Cecil McGinnis, Riley McGinnis, and Phil McGinnis all of Monticello, KY; 1 daughter, Colleen Ramsey of Monticello, KY; 6 grandchildren; Brian Ramsey, Chris McGinnis, Sue Davis, Steven McGinnis, Jason McGinnis, and Leslie Boggs; and 6, great grandchildren, Sara and Megan Davis, Tosha and Deshon Boggs, James McGinnis, and Lucas McGinnis.
He is also survived by: 1 sister, Linda Jane Smith of Monticello, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents, Willie and Edna McGinnis, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Bonnie McGinnis; 3 brothers, Shell, Jess, and Oliver McGinnis; and 4 sisters, Ellie Dishman, Mattie Stinson, Nellie McGinnis, and Irene McGinnis.
Shelby was a legend and an icon on Toller's Ridge. He always had a trick to play on you or a tall tale to tell you about his life in logging camps and growing up in the Slickford community of Wayne County.
Shelby McGinnis was loved and respected and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 2 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Koger Ramsey, Bro. Doug Kidd, and Bro. Jimmy Decker officiating. Burial will be in Dishman Cemetery.
