Obituary

Sara (Sallye) Guffey Richardson was born April 25, 1939, in Warrensburg, Illinois, to the late Grady and Ora (Hoover) Guffey. She was united in marriage to Daniel Richardson on August 27, 1960.  From the union, three children were born:  Vicki (Dale) Bridgeford, Susan (Allan) Buck, William (Melissa) Richardson, along with three grandchildren: Molly (Mark) Huffaker, Kristin Buck (and companion Jon Schuletheis), Kelly (Art) Jaramillo and two great grandchildren: Luke Huffaker and Korlyn Huffaker. She was a sibling to five brothers, Ottis (deceased), Charlie, Leonard, Roger, and Jack Guffey; and one sister, Judy (Guffey) Morrow.

Sallye accepted Christ as her Savior in her early teen years and was a member of Bethesda Methodist Church. In 1963, Sallye and her husband, Daniel, were baptized and became members of Faith Baptist Church; she was a faithful member there for the remainder of her life.  She attended Somerset Baptist Institute and Cumberland Baptist Institute to expand her knowledge of and relationship with the Lord. She never wavered from the call and wholeheartedly served her Lord and her church.

She was a Godly woman who raised her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in the ways of the Lord and was a great example to all who knew her. During Sallye's years of service to the Lord, she taught Sunday and Bible school, sang in the choir, and was even the janitor occasionally.

Sallye had many interests. She learned to garden as a child, growing flowers in tin cans. She also became an expert seamstress and crafter. As her children and grandchildren grew up, she delighted in making them new clothes, including Easter dresses and a little boy's suit.  She had the eye of an artist and the heart of a poet.  She had a gift for creating arts and crafts and effortlessly made beautiful and intricate things.

She was an unapologetic lover of nature. She nurtured and cared for all of God's creation. When she was 18, she nursed a whitetail deer with a broken leg back to health; "Babe" would live around the family home for three years before returning to the wild.  During her life, she had numerous pets of all descriptions. Today, Winston, a jet-black pug, has the run of the house. She loved all creatures, great and small.

Sara has finished the course. She has kept the faith, and the victory is hers. She waits now with great anticipation for those she loves.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself: that where I am there ye may be also. John 14:3
