S. D. "Doc" Whitehead was born March 28, 1937 and departed this life Sunday, August 25, 2012 reaching the age of 75. He was the son of the late Jr. and Margaret (Garling) Whitehead.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Gregory and to this union 4 children were born.

He is survived by: his wife, Barbara Whitehead; 2 sons, Boyd "Bo" Whitehead and Waysa "Charlie" Whitehead; 2 daughters, Jody Neal and Lisa Rose; 5 grandchildren; 1 step grandchild; 2 great grandchildren; and 2 step grandchildren. He is also survived by: 1 brother, Tommy Whitehead; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Jr. and Margaret Whitehead, he was preceded in death by: 1 brother, Russell Whitehead; and 3 sisters, Zella Vaughn, Mildred, and Truie.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. David Vaughn and Bro. Terry West officiating. Burial will be in Bud Gregory Cemetery.
