Russell Leon Lyons, age 77, of Monticello, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at his home in Old Fall Creek community of Wayne County. He was born March 14, 1937 at Upchurch, Clinton County, Kentucky to the late Asa Clayton Lyons and Mary Sam (Gist) Lyons.

He was married on May 31, 1957 to Joyce Thurston, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Edwin (Julie) Lyons, Larry (Misti) Lyons, and Kathy (Tom) Peek; sister, Arlene Foster; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Thomasine Lyons; a great-grandson, Trevor Gehring; and a nephew, Brian Robinson.

He was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church and attended regularly as long as his health allowed. He worked as a plumber, electrician, backhoe operator, merchant and farmer. He was a loving husband, father, and friend.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 20, 2014 after 5pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 21, 2014 at 11am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
