Russell Coy Alley

Russell Coy Alley was born June 19, 1949, and departed this life Tuesday, June 30, 2026, reaching the age of 77 years. He was the son of the late Bascom “Batch” and Effie Frances (Parmley) Alley.

He married Sandra Coffey and to this union one child was born.

He is survived by: his wife, Sandra Alley; one daughter, Somer Alley (Adam); and two grandchildren, Case Henry Davis and Claire Noelle Davis. He is also survived by: two sisters, Bernice Langdon (Maurice) and Joyce Alley; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Batch and Effie Alley, he was preceded in death by: two brothers, Lonnie Earl Alley and William David Alley; and two sisters, Margaret June Wilson and Thelma Alley.

Russell worked 33 years at Lake Cumberland Boys Camp; he taught inmates at the Wayne County Detention Center, assisting them in getting their G.E.D.’s He was chairman of the Wayne County Airport; and a past board member of the Monticello Utility Commission. He was a hard worker who never complained. And, he loved helping others.

He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He loved spoiling his grandkids, trading knives, spending time at the ocean, listening to music, and he was often seen cutting a rug.

Russell was a member of Elk Spring Valley Baptist Church, where he attended. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #431.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, between 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: Wayne County Animal Control or the House of Blessings.
