Roberta (Bertie) Mae Staples Richardson was born July 19, 1929 in Memphis, Tennessee. Roberta was the youngest child of the late Oscar and Maxine (Key) Staples.

She departed this life at the age of 89 at the Hicks Golden Years Nursing Home on May 8, 2019 after a prolonged illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother- Buster Staples, a sister- Jacqueline Richardson, and her husband- Walter Rolf Richardson.

She was united in marriage to Walter Rolf Richardson on September 23, 1947. They were married for 40 years until Rolf's untimely death on June 14, 1988. To this union, four sons survive:  Danny and his wife, Patricia, Larry and his wife, Karen, Richard and his wife, Virginia, and Norman and his wife, Jonesta.

Also surviving are her grandchildren: Wyndee Pushell, Stuart Richardson, Stephen Richardson, Todd Richardson, Heather Troutman, Hope Burchett, April Hatcher, Ashely Richardson, Mary Frances Richardson, and Lucas Richardson. She also felt very blessed to have 13 great grandchildren.

Roberta was a loving, talented Christian mother, grandmother, and devoted wife. "I just love talking to people," she would often say. She truly loved Christian music and Rock and Roll music.  In her younger years, she loved growing flowers, writing poetry, and sketching landscapes of days-gone-by.  She will be missed by family, friends and all who knew her.

Thank so much to Hicks Golden Years Nursing Home for their dedicated and tireless staff who worked to keep Roberta as comfortable as possible during the 8.5 years that she lived there.  Thanks also to Hospice of Lake Cumberland for her care this past year.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 12, 2019 between 11am – 2pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 2 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
