Obituary

Robert "Red" Arnold Shelton was born December 8, 1953, and departed this life Sunday, July 20, 2025, reaching the age of 71 years. He was the son of the late Robert Coleman and Ruby Hulda (Ferrell) Shelton.

He was united in marriage to Brenda Hall on December 25, 1992, by Bro. Anson Perkins at their home.

He is survived by: four daughters, Rachel Shelton (fiancé, Nick Bowman), Melinda Burnett (David), Marsha Phipps, and Misty Daniels (Jason); 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Phipps, Genece Phipps, Julie Phipps, Kaylie Phipps, Michael Phipps, Levi Bowman, Shelby Daniels, Jeremiah Daniels, Lucas Daniels, Jaycie Daniels, Emma Burnett, and Matthias Burnett; and one great grandchild, Allison Emerson. He is also survived by:  two brothers, Amos Dale and Eugene Shelton; and one sister, Ruby Dean; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Robert and Ruby Shelton, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Brenda Shelton; one daughter, Rebecca Ruth Shelton; brothers, Ralph, Troy, Sterlie Mack "Stevie", Tommy, and Homer Shelton; and sisters, Marilyn Bell and Donita Smith.

Robert was an ordained minister at South Main Baptist Church. He would minister to others by handing out small Bibles or knitting hats for cancer patients; something he started doing after his own cancer recovery, having knitted more than 500.

He enjoyed setting up at the flea markets, mainly to be able to sit and talk to people. He collected guns, loved old classic cars and T.V. shows, like Gunsmoke and Bonanza, playing guitars and banjos.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 24, 2025, between 5 pm - 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, 2025, at 12 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Hilltop Cemetery.
