Robert Zane Abbott was born June 23, 1939, and departed this life Thursday, May 22, 2025, reaching the age of 85 years. He was the son of the late Rufus Orville and Dewie (Rickman) Abbott.

He married Jean Ragan and to this union three children were born.

He is survived by: his wife, Jean Abbott; one son, Alan Abbott (Regina); two daughters, Nancy Sawyer (James) and Cindy Rose (Kevin); six grandchildren, Katy Claypool (Gregory), Emily Kidwell (Sean), Cory Sawyer (Molly), Victoria Lewis (Travis), Caleb Rose, and Benjamin Rose (Penny); and three great grandchildren, Sawyer Duffield, Ellie Lewis, and Ty Lewis; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Rufus and Dewie Abbott; he was preceded in death by: one brother, James Odell Abbott; and two sisters, Stella Ruth Eads and Janette Sumpter.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, between 10 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
