IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rebecca Gail
Crabtree
October 17, 1956 – November 30, 2021
Rebecca Gail Griffis Crabtree was born the youngest of the ten children of Ward & Sylvia Duncan Griffis in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 17 (she long denied the exact year, but records indicate 1956). Known as Becky to most, she was a singular individual: petite of frame, with an outsized personality.
She spent her early years in Ludlow, Kentucky, relishing her role as the baby of the family and entertaining guests at Ward & Sylvia's Restaurant.
She relocated to Monticello, Kentucky in 1969 with her parents, and soon met the love of her life Oakley Crabtree, Jr. They were married on January 4, 1975 and remained together until the moment of her passing. To their union were born two sons: Joshua & Adam Crabtree. She took much pride in her genetic contributions to their successes. However, she was most proud of her granddaughters Sylvia & Harper and grandson, Eli.
Rebecca was a retired teacher from the Wayne County School District, having taught fifth grade, Gifted & Talented students and seventh grade social studies for 25 years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Monticello and First Christian Church of Somerset (Disciples of Christ).
Rebecca entered eternal life surrounded by her family on November 30, 2021.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ward (1991) & Sylvia (2014) Griffis; brothers Ward Lee Griffis (2016), Paul Daniel Griffis (2003), Jessie Griffis (1940) & Ricky Griffis (2001); sisters Billie Jean Kinser (2005); Sue Johnson (2012), Peggy Drohan (2014) & Mary Sims (2015).
Left to carry on her legacy and celebrate her life are her husband, Oakley Jr.; son Joshua, his wife Sara and their children Sylvia and Henry Elias (Eli); son, Adam Crabtree his wife Amanda and his daughter Harper; sister Judie Gaston of Burlington, Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to: Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation www.komen.org
