Ray Smith was born January 13, 1924 and departed this life April 25, 2004 reaching the age of 79 years. He was the son of John Martin Smith and Ida Mae Hucaby Smith.
He was united in marriage to Betty Evelyn Mikel on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947.
He is survived by one son, Bruce Smith of Somerset, KY; one daughter, Lisa O'Conner of Tampa, FL; two brothers, Roy Smith of Marion, IN and Marvin Smith of Clarksville, TN; one sister, Imogene Cooper of Monticello, KY; and six grandchildren, Justin (Marsha), Allen, Jerod, and Adam Smith all of Somerset, KY, Michael Scott and Ashley O'Conner of Lakeland, FL; and five great grandchildren, Shannon, Hannah, Natalie and Cody Smith all of Somerset, KY and Hailey Soligny of Lakeland, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Smith; his parents, John and Ida Smith; one son, Mikel Ray Smith; and one brother, Howard Smith.
He served in the Navy during WWII and attended Naval Advanced Schools: A.F.F. at Newport, RI and TQM at Staten Isle, NY. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He worked for the Travelers Protection Agency for 40 years, he served two terms on the Monticello City Council and served on the Selective Service Draft Board for 30 years.
He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, relative and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation: Monday, April 26 between the hours of 5 - 9 PM in the funeral home chapel.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, April 27 at 3 PM in the funeral home chapel.
Interment: Elk Spring Cemetery
