Obituary

Randle Rankin Dolen, age 78, passed from this life on February 16, 2025, in Monticello, Kentucky, after a long illness. He was born on January 3, 1947, at Bell Farm, Kentucky, and often said that right here in Kentucky was the best place in the world to live.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Dolen and Emma (Coffey) Dolen, as well as his brother, Merrill Dolen (Brenda). He is survived by his loving wife, Lois (Dalton) Dolen; his brother, Stuart Dolen (Sandra); his daughters, Amy Beaudoin (Joseph) and Shelly Park (Michael); and his cherished grandchildren, Sophia Beaudoin and Emily and Anna Park. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Randle was a hard worker from a young age, holding jobs at Dunnington Milling Company and Conley Bottom Dock during his youth. Randle proudly served in the National Guard. In his adult working life, he was a farmer, rebuilt automobiles, and worked at Belden. He helped to build his own house in 2003, where he and his wife lived.

Never one to be idle, he taught himself woodworking in his retirement years, crafting more than one hundred cabinets and countless other projects, which he gifted to family and friends or sold locally. When his health or the weather kept him from his workshop, he took up quilting, creating colorful patchwork quilts in the style of his mother's handiwork, each one a labor of love. Quilt cabinets were one of his specialties, combining both arts.

Above all, he will be remembered as the best and kindest of men-a quiet soul who made friends easily, helped strangers without hesitation, and loved his family deeply. His daughters and granddaughters will always remember him as the best dad and Pa they could have hoped for.

A service to honor his life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 1:00 pm, EST at Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home in Monticello, Kentucky, with visitation immediately preceding, beginning at 11:00 a.m., and burial to follow at Elk Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons, Hospice of Lake Cumberland, or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS).
