Obituary

Ralph "Scott" Choate, age 53 of Monticello, KY, passed away Friday, November 08, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. He was born January 4, 1960 in Monticello, KY; the son of the late Ralph A. and Uldean B. (Perdue) Choate.

The family moved to New Castle, IN when he was three weeks old. He attended school in New Castle and graduated Chrysler High School in 1978. At the time he became ill, he was employed by Colorbox, a Georgia Pacific Company in Richmond, IN, where he enjoyed working and had many friends. In 1981, he married Emma, and they raised three children together: Crystal, Jessica, and Bryan. Over the years, they invited several children into their home to call their own. In the last year their nephew, Earl, lived with them and became like a son to him. He considered himself a member of The Lighthouse Temple, though he hadn't been able to attend in some time. He enjoyed aggravating, teasing, fishing, horses, and working on his farm. He worked in maintenance by trade and always loved to tinker.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years: Emma Kay (Rigney) Choate; two daughters, Crystal (husband, James) Humphrey of Monticello, and Jessica (husband, Gregory) Brummett of Albany; one son, Bryan Scott Choate of Monticello; one grandson,
Daniel Scott Choate; four granddaughters, Olivia and Kayson Brummett, Isabella Choate-Rodriguez, and Abbygale Humphrey; two brothers, Dwight (wife, Debbie) Barnes, Tracy (wife, Rhonda) Choate; one sister, Pamela (husband, Mark) Orr; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by: father, Ralph A. Choate: mother, Uldean B. Choate; sister, Shirley Ann Barnes; his maternal and paternal grandparents; as well as several aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 5pm - 9pm in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be Monday, November 11, 2013 at 1pm in the chapel of the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Davis Chapel Cemetery.
