Phyllis E. Cowan was born September 3, 1934 and departed this life Sunday, January 7, 2018 reaching the age 83 years. She was the daughter of the late Ovid Shell and Erma (Slagle) Edwards.

She married James H. Cowan and to this union 2 children were born.

She is survived by: her husband of 59 years, James Cowan; two sons, Randy (Susie) Cowan and Tim (Freda) Cowan; one brother, Bobby (Helen) Edwards; one sister, Nancy (Mike) Perkins; 6 Grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Constant, Tyler Matthew Cowan, Elizabeth Ashley Foster, Sarah Beth Little, Vanessa Cooper, and Jeremiah Stinson; 6 Great-Grandchildren, Bryce Skylar Catron, Brentley Wayne Foster, Zephyr McKay Constant, Maddox and Mike Cooper, and Jett Connor Little; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: one brother, John Edwards; two sisters, Wanda Lyons and infant sister, Dora Lee Edwards.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, relative and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 after 6 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: the St. Judes Children's Research Hospital and the American Cancer Society.
