Phillip Russell Hammond was born January 17th 1952 and passed from this life on April 21st, 2023, reaching the age of 71.  He was born to the late Joe Marion Hammond and the late Mary Allison (Burris) Hammond.

He is survived by two daughters; Sandra (Chris) West and Christina Hammond, one son; Joe (Freda) Hammond, four grandchildren; Cadynce and Xaivea West, Shawn and Zachery Hammond, six brothers; Thomas (Lea), Jerry, Timothy, Lewis, Melvin, and Robin Hammond, one sister; Martha Tibbs. He was preceded in death by one brother; Christopher Hammond.

After being drafted in 1972, he served in our country's army for two years, followed by 17 years in the Army-National Guard; gaining the nickname "Birddog". He retired from Oakwood after 24 years. He spent his retired life enjoying reading, birdwatching, and spending time with his family.

The family will receive friends at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home chapel from 10am-2pm on Tuesday, April 25th. The memorial and burial will follow at the Morrow Cemetery.
