IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peggy York
Snider
October 2, 1937 – March 26, 2021
On March 26, 2021, Peggy York Snider, the loving selfless mother of six children, passed away and is now beside the still waters. Born October 2, 1937 to Luther M. and Georgia B. York of Jamestown, Tennessee, Peggy graduated from York Agricultural Institute in 1955, and attended Tennessee Tech University and later the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
Peggy lived in Pahokee, Florida for about 20 years where she was employed by the Pahokee Housing Authority and Brady Farms. While raising her children and working, she took classes and developed wonderful baking and cake decorating skills. Her culinary talents earned her the nickname "Poundcake Peg". Cooking remained a source of joy throughout her life.
In 1981 Peggy embarked on a new adventure moving to Trapper Creek, Alaska to run the Trapper Creek Trading Post with her sister, Judy. With a restaurant included in the Trading Post, Peggy was in her element in the kitchen, and she established many lifelong friendships throughout the community. In 1994 she returned to her mother's home in Chestnut Grove, Kentucky, where she remained for most of the rest of her life.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Snider; and sister, Judy Stankowitz. She is survived by six children and their spouses: Thomas M. and Kathleen Parris (Lexington, KY); Mia J. Leckie (Payette, ID); Jacquelyn and John Eastlake (Lakewood, WA); Scott and Stephanie Parris (La Grange, NC); Sidney and Tamsin Parris (Punta Gorda, FL); and Eric Snider (Monticello, KY). Peggy is also survived by 11 grandkids, four great grandkids, and a nephew and niece.
A memorial service honoring Peggy's life is planned this summer once the coronavirus vaccine is more widely administered. Donations in memory of Peggy can be made to one of her two favorite causes: St. Jude's Children Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/) or the Disabled American Veterans (https://www.dav.org/).
