Obituary

Patricia Anne McKinley, born September 29, 1944, passed away peacefully in hospice care at her home on Friday, October 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Patricia was the oldest of four children. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Edward (April) Maddux and Arthur Maddux, and her mother, Minda Irene Abbott Sprolls. She is survived by her son, Mark (Peggy) McKinley; daughter, Diane (Cleve) Wright; granddaughters, Chloe (Jarred) Kappers and Emma (Margo) Wright; great-granddaughter, McKinley Mae Kappers; and sister, Pamela (Greg) Catanzaro; one niece, Mary Alice (Kirk) Koon, and one great-nephew, William Koon; as well as a few cousins remaining in this area.

Patricia spent many years in Indianapolis, where she retired from the General Motors Truck & Bus Plant. In 2013, she returned to Monticello, Kentucky, where she continued a life of service and involvement in her community.

She had a remarkable gift for making a difference wherever she went. In Indianapolis, she enjoyed acting and supporting local theater and volunteered her time with Oasis 50+ and the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site. She carried that same spirit of service to Kentucky, volunteering at the UAW Center in Somerset and The House of Blessing.

Her faith became an important part of her life in Monticello, where she was an active member of Monticello United Methodist Church. She gave generously of her time, energy, and heart to her church and community.

Patricia was also passionate about public television, radio, education, and animal welfare. She proudly supported organizations including KET, PBS, NPR, and the ASPCA. She believed in the value of these organizations and the opportunities and services they provide to communities, families, and animals.

She leaves behind not only her family, but also many friends, neighbors, fellow volunteers, church members, and community members whose lives she touched throughout the years. She had a generous heart, a strong sense of independence, a love of people, and a willingness to lend a hand whenever she could. She never measured her life by how much she had, but by how much she could give—her time, her friendship, her laughter, and her willingness to help. Her life was one of service, friendship, family, faith, and community. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Celebration of Life for Patricia Anne Abbott McKinley will be held on Saturday, October 17 at 1 p.m. at Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home, 647 North Main Street, Monticello, KY 42633.

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Patricia’s life, share memories, and remember the many ways she touched the lives of those around her from 1pm- 1:30 pm with short service to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, in memory of Pat. Supporting organizations that served her community and reflected her values was important to her.
