Oscar Bennett Franklin was born March 31, 1921 and departed this life Friday, October 14, 2011 reaching the age of 90. He was the son of the late Harrison and Clara (Bell) Franklin.
He was united in marriage to Gladys Ramsey and to this union 3 children were born.
He is survived by: 3 daughters, Linda (Kenneth) Jones, Sandra (Buddy) Troxell, and Patsy (Fred) West; 5 grandchildren; Kendra Jones, Holly West, Ryan Bennett Jones, Kyle Troxell, and Dillon West; and 1 great grandchild, Levi Jones; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents, Harrison and Clara Franklin, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Gladys Franklin; 4 brothers, Everett, Raymond, Carly Russell, and Hershel Franklin.
He was a WWII Army Veteran who received several medals including 3 Bronze Service Stars and the Purple Heart. He lived in the Stop community and was a member of the Stop Church of Christ, where he also served as minister and elder.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 17, 2011 after 5 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 11 am at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Tom Nelson, Billbert Allison, and Bill Allison officiating. Burial will be in Stop Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.
