Bro. Odie Dallas Hollars was born April 14, 1921 and departed this life Thursday, July 18, 2013 reaching the age of 92. He was the son of the late R.Z. and Nova (Crabtree) Hollars.
On December 31, 1945, he was united in marriage to Gladys Sullivan and to this union 9 children were born. Odie and Gladys were married for 67 years.
He is survived by: his wife, Gladys Hollars; children, Phyllis Winfrey (Junior), Michael Hollars (Dimple), Patricia Crisostomo, Carolyn Johnson (Mark), Mitchell Hollars (Cheryl), Steve Hollars (Sherry), Sharon Kresen, and Tim Hollars; 1 son-in-law, Jack Abramson; 12 grandchildren, Pam Coffey (Sam), Shawna Pyles (Wayne), Phillip Crisostomo (Heather), Olivia Crisostomo, Joshua Kresen, Amber Hollars, Michele Eno (Steve), Sean Hollars (Heather), Daniel Hollars, Mark Johnson, Savannah Johnson, and Charles Kresen; 5 step grandchildren, Jenifer Lester, Stephanie Lester, Sherry Abramson, Ann Fender, and Laura Abramson; 14 great grandchildren, Jessica Mason (Frank), Jacob Coffey, Michael Glen Troxell, McKenna Hollars, Halen Pharis, Kaylee Hollars, Kadan Hollars, Nate Pyles, Grayson Sweet, Hayden Hollars, Isabella Crisostomo, Benjamin Eno, Gavin Hollars, and Conner Eno; step great grandchildren, J.W. Gregory, Kenzey Gregory, Morgan Burchett, Mason Lester, Michelle Mandley, Sean Bubeck, and Alisha Abramson; 1 great-great grandchild, Levi Mason and another on the way, Emma Faith Mason; and 2 step great-great grandchildren, Julia and Alex Mandley.
He is also survived by: 1 brother, Ralph Hollars, and 2 sisters, Lily Dane and Opal Upchurch; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: 1 daughter, Neta Abramson; 1 grandson, Michael "Mikie" Hollars; 1 step grandchild, Jeff Abramson; 2 great grandchildren, Alex Hollars and Haley Hollars; 2 sisters, Irene Sullivan and Susie Watson; and 2 brothers, Walter and Raymond Hollars.
Bro. Odie served as pastor at Piney Woods Mission Church for 54 years. He was a man who loved the Lord with all his heart and was a faithful servant. He was an Army veteran who served his country proudly during WWII.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, relative and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 10 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Bell, Bro. Randy Watson, Bro. Danny Leffew, and Bro. Rayburn Sweet officiating. Burial will be in Piney Woods Mission Church Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.
