Obie Francis Ramsey, age 86, died March 4th, 2014 at his home in the Stop community of Wayne County, Kentucky. He was born at Stop on September 5, 1927. He was the 8th child of William Cicero Ramsey and Bernetta Chloe Rector Ramsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Roy Ramsey, three sisters, Ila Clark, Della Wood, and Lydia Allison Smith, and one son, Allan Ramsey.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Magdalene "Maggie" Ramsey whom he married on January 26, 1949. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive; two daughters, Nikki Morrow and Dinah Tucker both of Wayne County, Kentucky and one son, Willie Ramsey of Somerset, KY. He has five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.
He is also survived by three sisters, Lena Banta of Tampa, Florida, Laura Mabel McElroy of Somersosh, Washington and Flonnie Ferguson of Columbus, Ohio and Wayne County, Kentucky.
He lived at Stop all his life with the exception of his tour of duty in the Marines during 1945 – 1946 and 3 years in Lexington, Kentucky while getting his bachelor's degree in agriculture. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in December of 1949.
From January 1950 to May 1985 he worked as an adult vocational agriculture teacher. During the earlier years he worked with farmers in Wayne, Clinton, Cumberland, Adair, Casey, and Pulaski counties, but solely in Wayne County from around 1963 until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of the Stop Church of Christ where he served as the song leader and one of the elders for many years.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 6, 2014 after 6 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Stop Cemetery.
