Oather Edwin "Ed" Baker, was born May 23, 1927 and departed this life Saturday, July 3, 2010 reaching the age of 83. He was the son of the late James Logan and Cora (Slaven) Baker.
He was united in marriage to Fern Kantroth who preceded him in death. In 2003 he married Neta Frye Shrum who survives him.
In addition to his wife, Neta, he is survived by: 1 son, Larry Edwin (Lavida) Baker of Texas; 3 sisters, Stella Eason, Eula Taylor, and Mary Barron all of Somerset, KY. He is also survived by: 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 4 step children, and 9 step grandchildren; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, James and Cora Baker; his first wife, Fern Baker; 1 son, James Robert "Bobby" Baker; 1 grandson, Cainen Baker; 2 brothers, Willie and Ira Baker; and 3 sisters, Obel Adams, Wilma Turpin, and Ina Pearl Baker.
Mr. Baker served two years in the Army, from 1945 – 1946 and was a long-time member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 105. He retired from the South Kentucky RECC where he worked as a serviceman.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 5, 2010 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 10 am at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Walker and Bro. Danny Bell officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring Cemetery.
