Nellie Louise Burnette was born November 14, 1938, and departed this life Thursday, August 7, 2025, reaching the age of 86 years. She was the daughter of the late Ligh and Elizabeth (Phipps) Slaven.

She married Edgar Carl Burnette on March 3, 1956, and to this union six children were born.

She is survived by: five children, Jean (Toby) Gregory, Carlene (Gary) Slaven, Glenn (Phyllis) Burnett, Ronnie Lee Burnette, and Rhonda Renee (Rabion) Decker; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Burnette.

She is also survived by: twelve grandchildren, Ashley (Jason) Frye, Jeremy (Rebecca) Burnette, Melissa Piercy, Brittany (Dink) Thompson, Nicole (Brian) Burnette, Rhonda Lee (Josh) Faulkner, Chelsea (Jacob) Gibson, Kresley (Dalton) Burnette, Cheryl Gehring, Bethany Burnette, Monica (Bradley) Wells, and Emily Decker; and great-grandchildren, McKenna Hollars, Brooklyn Burnette, Sadie Wells, Ethan Burnette, Lana Turner, Madelynne Piercy, Macy Wells, Laura Turner, Desi Burnette, Breanna Burnette, Haygan Doss, Miley Wells, Breelee Thompson, Nakayla Faulkner, Halen Lovett, Nathaniel Scott, Tyrus Pope, Travis Faulkner, Tralee Thompson, Noah Scott, Brincyn Pope, Alex Faulkner,  Devon Daniels, Forrest Thompson, Madalyn Burchett, Amelia Faulkner, Espen Faulkner, and Easton Southwood, Colson Southwood, Landree Kate Southwood, Oaklee Southwood, Knox Gibson, and Jaxon Frye; and great-great grandchildren, Harper Van Burggen and Weston Cole Kirby; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Ligh and Elizabeth Slaven, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Edgar Carl Burnette; one son, Edward Burnette; two great grandchildren, Allison Grace Scott and Trevor Gehring. She was also preceded in death by: five brothers, Ernest, William Arthur, Robert, Preston, and Theodore Slaven; and four sisters, Pearl Miller, Katie Brown, Bessie Hammond, and Juanita York; and three who died in infancy.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 11, 2025, between 5 pm – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 12 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Obie Dobbs Cemetery.
