Nancy Powell Daffron, 89, of Monticello, died Monday, January 28, 2019, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.
A native of Wayne County, she was born October 26, 1929, the daughter of Earl Edward and Mabel Bertram Powell.
Until her death, she was the longest-living member of the Monticello United Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, children's choir director, choir member, and was involved in many ministries for over 80 years, sharing Jesus' love through her caring heart and warm smile.
She was a longtime bookmobile driver for the Wayne County Public Library, bringing literacy and a love of reading to hundreds of children and adults across the county in the 1970s and 80s.
She also was the longest-living member of the Wayne County Odds and Ends Homemaker Club, having been part of the group for over 50 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in in death by her devoted husband, Lewis "Sonny" Daffron, a sister, Joan Anderson, a brother, Donald Powell, and two infant sons.
Survivors include three loving children: Jeanie (Wade) Upchurch, Louie (Sharon) Daffron, and Stewart (Maggie) Daffron.
Two sisters: Geraldine Gregory and Linda Lewis.
Seven grandchildren: Stesha (Dennis) Flowers, Trevis (Dustin) Upchurch, Haley (Nathan) Novotny, Lucas and Dustin Daffron, Melissa (Kris) Felkins, and Stewart (Rosalie) Daffron.
Twelve great-grandchildren: Dagan (Shawnna), Clay, Lee, Calee, Cadence, Ty, Emma, Sophia, Miriam, Anthony, Donnie, and Tiffany.
Two great-great grandchildren: Benson and Paxton.
And many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2019, and 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, February 2, at the Monticello United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at noon, Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the church. Burial will follow in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
