Maudie Burks was born March 20, 1926 and departed this life Tuesday, August 13, 2013 reaching the age of 87. She was the daughter of the late Elisha and Anna (Roberts) Steele.

She is survived by: her son, Roger Burks; 1 sister, Tella Roberts; 1 grandchild; and 1 great grandchild; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Elisha and Anna Steele, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert Burks; two daughters, Betty Burks and Kathaline Burks; 6 brothers, Cleavie, Herbert, Loren, Essie, Troy, and Golman Steele; and 2 sisters, Edna Davis and Helen Keeton.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 16, 2013 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. Dewey Burks officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring Cemetery.
