Martie "Gene" Matthews was born March 22, 1926 and departed this life April 9, 2008 reaching the age of 82 years. He was the son of the late Finley Matthews and Lillie Augusta Poe Matthews.

He married Mary Lou Burgess and to this union four children were born.

He is survived by: one son- Larry Matthews of Monticello, KY, one daughter- Carolyn Thrasher of Bowling Green, KY, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by: one brother- Paul Matthews of New Castle, IN and one sister- Mae White of Plano, TX.; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by: one son- Darrell Matthews and one daughter- Marilyn Matthews.

He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, relative and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation: Friday, April 11th after 5 pm
Funeral Service: Saturday, April 12th at 1 pm
Interment: Elk Spring Cemetery
