MARTHA ELMIRA BLEVINS SLOAN was born February 6th, 1905 in the Mt. Pisgah community of Wayne County, KY and departed this life Tuesday, September 30th, 2003, reaching the age of 98 years. She was the daughter of John C. Blevins and Lizzie Smith Blevins.

She is survived by three sons-Charles and Garmon Hurt, both of Anderson, Indiana and Billy Sloan of Monticello, KY. She is survived by six brothers-Dewey (George), William (Bill) Coolidge, Richard, John, Henry, and Elmer Blevins and one sister-Pearl Gregory. She is survived by 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchlidren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence E. Sloan, one daughter who died in infancy, one grandchild, and two sisters-Mary Blevins Hurt and Lillie Blevins Keeton.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, relative and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.


Visitation: The family will receive friends after 5 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 1st in the chapel of the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 8 AM on Thursday morning until the funeral hour the same day.
Funeral Service: The funeral service will be Thursday, Oct. 3rd at 11 AM at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Bro. Keith McKim and Bro. Danny Bell officiating.
Interment: Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
