Martha Lee Guffey was born May 26, 1922 and departed this life Friday, March 30, 2012 reaching the age of 89. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Alvis and Sally (Henniger) Brown.

She was united in marriage to Elvis Guffey and to this union 9 children were born.

She is survived by: 2 sons, Junior Guffey and Bro. Dillard Guffey both of Monticello, KY; 4 daughters, Janet Marlow, Allene Guffey, and Linda Catron all of Monticello, KY, and Carolyn Davis of Elkhart, IN; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by: 5 sister, Emma William of Dayton, OH, Ann Stephens of Monticello, KY, Ruby Frances, Lucy Franklin, and Bernice Balumbaugh all of New Castle, IN,; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Alvis and Sally Brown, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Elvis Guffey; 1 son, Carl Guffey; 1 daughter, Justine Guffey; and 1 sister, Zelbie Hicks.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 2 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Darrell Ragan and Bro. Thomas Fulton officiating. Burial will be in Old Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
