Lonnie Earl Alley was born August 9, 1940 and departed this life Friday, August 12, 2022 reaching the age of 82 years. He was the son of the late Bascom "Batch" and Effie (Parmley) Alley.

He is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Barbara Alley; one son, Jeff (Pat) Alley; and one granddaughter, Taylor Troxell. He is also survived by:  his siblings, Bernice (Maurice) Langdon, David (Betty) Alley, Russell (Sandra) Alley and Joyce Alley; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Alley and Margaret June Wilson.

After retiring from Gamble Brothers, Earl began a new chapter at what is now known as the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home; a position he would serve in for a total of 19 years. Earl was a valued member of the funeral home staff, always quick to offer a hand and willing to assist in any endeavor.

Earl loved trading and bartering, antiques and collectibles, juke boxes and fifties music. He enjoyed reminiscing, telling stories and discussing the Bible. He loved his family, and he loved the Lord.

Earl would jokingly say "You're gonna miss ole' Earl when he's gone."  And he was right, he is missed!

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 between 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.

Earl had a compassionate heart and was always giving to others. Per Earl's wishes, his family request that in lieu of flowers for his service, you might give to someone in need: school supplies or clothes for a child, flowers for someone in the nursing home or hospital, pay a bill or buy food for a struggling family.
