Lena C. Southwood McFarland, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at her home in Monticello, KY. She was born on February 12, 1929 in the Eadsville community of Wayne County to George Prentice and Ollie Mae (Buster) Southwood.

She was united in marriage to Charles Alexander (C.A.) McFarland on January 22, 1960.

She is survived by her son Calvin (Kelly) McFarland, step-son Gordon (Sandra) McFarland; grandchildren Trevor McFarland, Elizabeth (Tyler) Richardson, Mary Katherine (Katie) McFarland, and Robert Alexander (Alex) McFarland; sisters Vena Roberts and Lora Miller; sister-in-law Joan Southwood and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom will all mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother Robert Lee Southwood and a sister Anna Ruth Southwood.

She dedicated over 31 years to teaching children.  She began teaching in one room schools in July 1947 including:  Rocky Hill, Kidder, Frisby, Mt. Hope (Bugwood), Mt. Zion and finished with 21 years at Wayne County Elementary #1.  She retired in 1979.

She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was a member of Monticello First Baptist Church.

Expressions of sympathy should take the form of donation to the Love Ministry of the First Baptist Church or the ministry of Zadie's Ladies.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 14, 2018 between 6 pm – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
