Lela Mae Smith was born February 8, 1924; the daughter of the late Jim and Dona (Miller) Winchester. She passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Wayne County Hospital. She was 94 years old

She was united in marriage to Dewey Smith, who passed away September 2, 1984. To this union six children survive: Pauline Myers (Sonny) of Sharpsville, IN, Juanita Davis (Junior), Danny Smith (Janet), Tommy Smith (Denise), Donald Smith (Vicki) of Pikeville, KY and Debbie Padgett (Mike); along with 20 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by: three sisters, Betty Abbott, Lorene Slagle, and Maxine Coffey; one brother, Johnny Winchester; many nieces, nephews, and relatives to mourn her passing.

Lela was preceded in death by: one granddaughter, Jennifer Holloway; three brothers, Ray, Thomas, and Odis Winchester; two sisters, Ann Shelton and Margaret Anderson.

She was a member of the Fall Creek Baptist Church where she remained faithful as long as her health permitted.

Lela loved the outdoors, gardening, sewing, and cooked many dinners for family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 between 5 pm – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
