Joyce Faye Gover was born April 16, 1933, and departed this life Thursday, October 5, 2023, reaching the age of 90 years. She was the daughter of the late General H. Burke and Nina (Stepp) Burke.

She married Joe Ellis Bell and to this union three children were born: Don McWain, Teresa, and Donna. After his death, she was united in marriage to Samuel Gover and to this union, one child, Chris, was born.

Joyce is survived by: two daughters, Teresa Eaton and Donna Slagle (Paul); one son, Chris Gover (Suzie); two grandchildren, Maggie Gover and Samuel Gover; one great grandchild, Keelea Savage; and one step grandchild, Nickolas Pierce; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her first husband, Joe Ellis Bell; her second husband, Samuel Gover; one son, Don McWain Bell; and one grandchild, Joe Eaton. She was also preceded in death by her siblings:  Orville Burke, Glen Burke, Beulah Burke Bell, Ford Burke, Imogene Burke Cross, and Jimmie Burke.

Joyce was an avid reader, reading everything - even her cookbooks - and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of a bowling team. She loved the outdoors, working in her vegetable and flower gardens, feeding her birds and porch sitting.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 9, 2023 between 12 pm – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Monday, October 9, 2023 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
