John A. Williams was born September 27, 1936, in Touristville, Kentucky. John was the second child of the late Walter Williams and Helen Brown Williams. He departed this life at the age of 81 at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation on October 3, 2017, after a prolonged illness. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Kenneth Williams; his sister, Polly Desmond. He is survived by his brother, Gene (Virgie) Williams.
He was united in marriage to Lorene B. Williams on May 27, 1967, a marriage of 50 years. They were blessed by two children: Barton (Debra) Williams and Kevin Williams; four grandchildren: Brett and Barek Williams, Shayla Mincey and Kindsey Williams; two great grandchildren: Cooper and Cambree Mincey.
Johnny joined the Kentucky National Guard where he served faithfully for nine years.
Following high school graduation he tried the trucking business for a short time delivering lumber throughout the region. He and his brother, Gene, farmed the family farm and other acreage under the title of Williams Brothers. There was a close bond between them and they were able to work together for many years until Johnny's health deteriorated. Farming was an important part of his life.
He was a devoted, longtime member of Tuttle Chapel United Methodist Church; attending church was very important to him. He rarely missed a service as long as he was able.
Johnny loved helping his children with their sports, tractor driving, or any skill in which they were trying to master. He was a great encourager to his wife and children.
Johnny will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and anyone who knew him.
