John K. Gover and his twin sister were born May 4, 1921, in Antioch, Ky, the first of five children born to Pauline Smith Gover and Roy K. Gover. He died June 17, 2013, in Somerset, KY, at the age of 92. He married Ruth Frances Grear on March 25, 1940. She preceded him in death after 68 years of marriage. During his youth he came to be called "Johnny-Boy" to distinguish him from his constant companion and grandfather, John Allen Gover. Most of his many friends who knew him by that name have preceded him in death.
John K., as he was affectionately called by Ruth, was a farmer most of his life. However, his life was also filled with dedicated service to his community. He was an officer in Southern States Cooperative, Pulaski County Feeder Calf Association and Bronston Water Association. He was a deacon at Bronston Baptist Church; he and Ruth often hosted the minister and revival speakers for dinner. In addition to farming, he managed the Cedar Hill Heights housing development which he co-owned.
He is the father of two sons, both surviving, James Edwin Gover, Rio Rancho, NM, and John Anthony Gover, Elizabethtown, KY; the grandfather of Tamela Maria Gover Patterson, Albuquerque, NM, and Angela Ruth Gover McQuade, Denver, CO; and the great grand-father of Maria Jean Patterson, Albuquerque, NM, and Maya Jean McQuade, Denver, CO.
His surviving siblings are: his twin, Flora Miller, Owensboro, KY, Robert Gover, Bowling Green, KY, and David Gover, Mills Springs, KY. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Jane Safford, La Jolla, CA.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 9am – 9:30am in the chapel of the funeral home. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 10 am at the Elk Spring Cemetery with burial to follow.
