John Edwards was born on August 29th, 1939 and departed this life January 11, 2017 reaching the age of 77 years.

John was the son of Shell and Ermie Slagle Edwards of the Cooper community and the brother of Phyllis Cowan (James), Bobby Edwards (Helen) and Nancy Perkins (Mike). Two sisters precede him in death, Wanda Lyons (Bobby) and infant, Dora Lee Edwards.

John was married to Velda Bell on October 15, 1977. He leaves behind five children, Gordon Scott Edwards (Tina) of Atlanta, GA, Christy King (Boomer) of Jacksonville, FL Terri Shepard (Larry) of Somerset, KY, Johnny Baker (Eves) of St. Cloud, FL, and Angie Tucker (David) of Monticello, KY; eight grandchildren, Noah Edwards, Texas, Tish Hill of Jacksonville, FL, Krista Fresquez (Carlos) of Jacksonville, FL, Jamie Safonte (Eddie) of Clermont, FL, Kyle Baker (Ashley) of Monticello, KY, William Grant Stringer (Sarah) of Somerset, KY, Kristopher King (Jackie) of Alexandria, VA, and Daniel Tucker (Natasha) of Monticello, KY; four great grandkids Kinsley and Abby Hill, Kody Fallon of Jacksonville, FL and Will Stringer of Somerset, KY.

John accepted Christ at a early age and attended New Town Baptist Church. John loved his church and served his Lord faithfully holding the position of Trustee, Treasurer, Music Director, Men's Sunday School Teacher for several years.

He was loved by everyone that knew him and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the New Town Baptist Church or Gideon's Memorial Bible Plan.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 13, 2017 after 5 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
