JP Cooper (age 81) passed away on Monday, February 1st at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY.

He was born November 22, 1934 in the Stop community in Wayne County. He was the youngest of three boys born to the late Curtis and Ina Cooper.

JP attended Wayne County High School where he graduated in 1952. He worked at various places throughout his life including Monticello Construction Company, Southern Equipment Company, and Jim Walter Homes to name a few. He was also co-owner of a string of Scotty's Restaurant franchises throughout the state of Kentucky in the 1970's. He retired in 1996 at the age of 62.

JP was a member of Monticello Methodist Church. At the time of his death, he resided at Somerwood Nursing Home in Somerset, Ky.

JP truly enjoyed life and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed attending horse races at Keeneland, watching his favorite team, the New York Yankees, playing baseball on TV, and UK basketball.

JP is survived by his son Mark and his fiancée Heather Flynn of Somerset, three nephews- Lynn Cooper and wife Jerri of Evansville, IN., Barry Cooper and wife Annie of Monticello, and Stephen Cooper of Raleigh, N.C., one niece- Cindy Roby of Murfreesboro, TN., an aunt- Evelyn Cross of Monticello and sister-in-law Imogene Cooper of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Jack Cooper of Nashville, TN., and Ray Cooper of Monticello, one nephew- Marty Cooper of Monticello, and his loving companion of more than 30 years, (and Mark's mother), Jackie Morgan.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 5, 2016 between 12- 2pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 5, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
