Jessie Allene Prater

Jessie Allene Prater was born October 6, 1947, and departed this life Wednesday, April 29, 2026, reaching the age of 78 years. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lila (Pyles) Hicks.

She is survived by: one son, Scotty Jewell; three daughters, Gayle Jewell, Brenda Morrow (Teddy), and Cindi Sumpter (HC); and grandchildren, Jordan (Kristina) Morrow, Tyler Morrow, Cody Miller, and Hunter Sumpter; and great grandchildren, Joslyn Morrow and Christos Morrow; and her dog Oreo; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Charlie and Lila Hicks, she was preceded in death by: her 1st husband, Jim Jewell; her 2nd husband, Robert Prater; two daughters, Beverly Jewell and Patricia Marcum; three brothers, Lincoln Hicks, Odell Hicks, and David Hicks; and two sisters, Bessie Cook and Loraine Riddle.

She was a loving mother and grandmother; and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 1, 2026, between 5 pm – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
