Jay Edgar Cross was born September 18, 1931 and departed this life Sunday, January 26, 2014 reaching the age of 82. He was the son of the late William Hardy and Nannie (Bell) Cross.

He was united in marriage to Lois Lorene Rains and to this union 2 daughters were born.

He is survived by: his wife, Lois Cross of Monticello, KY; two daughters, Tammy Cross Dishman of Somerset, KY and Tonia Cross Smith of Monticello, KY; and five grandchildren, Tyler Joe, Trevor and Zachary Dishman, Madison and Chloe Smith. He is also survived by: three brothers, Lyle Cross of Monticello, KY, William Cross of Somerset, KY, and Arthur Cross of Ohio; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Hardy and Nannie Cross, he was preceded in death by: two brothers, Jim and Bernard Cross; and one sister, Faye Stinson.

Jay proudly served his country in the Korean War and served his Lord as a faithful member of Central Union Separate Baptist Church. Jay worked at Belden Corporation for 20 years. He enjoyed watching UK basketball, tending his garden, and watching his grandkids play baseball.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 5 – 9 pm in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 1 pm in the chapel of the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Gap Creek Cemetery. Full military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.
