Janette Sumpter was born May 20, 1934, and departed this life on Friday, May 24, 2024, reaching the age of 90 years. She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Dewie (Rickman) Abbott.

Janette was united in marriage to Arnold Odell Sumpter on December 24, 1952, in Chatsworth, GA; to this union three children were born. After 28 years of being in the military, she and her husband returned to their hometown of Monticello.

She is survived by: two daughters, Robin Stiffler (Bruce) and Renee Adams (Danny); daughter-in-law, Tammye Sumpter; seven grandchildren, Amanda Sweet (Jason), Jennifer Luther (Andrew), Dean Sumpter, Miranda Carte (Judd), Makayla Stiffler, Jacob Adams (Linh) and Blake Adams (Audrey); and six great grandchildren, Avery Sweet, Lane Sweet, Charleston Luther, Epperly Luther, Ava Liegh Carte and Mila Adams. She is also survived by: one brother, Robert Abbott; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Odell Sumpter; one son, Terry Sumpter; one brother, James Odell Abbott; and one sister, Stella Ruth Eads.

Janette loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed shopping and buying for them all. Her gift from God was always doing for others.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
