James "Pete" Lee Gunter was born September 23, 1962, and departed this life Sunday, June 1, 2025, reaching the age of 62 years. He was the son of the late Daisy Bell (Gunter) McGinnis.

He is survived by: his wife, Melissa Ann Gunter; two sons, Nick Gunter (Makensey) and Chance Gunter; four daughters, Shannon Gunter, Kalissa Bridgeman, Christy Thurman (Paul), and Lucy Roberts (Scott); nine grandkids, Jordan, Alex, Jace, Samantha, Maelyn, Colin, William, Phoenix, and Amelia; and two great grandkids, Emberley and Adriana.

He is also survived by: four sisters, Diana Corder, Lessia Zimmerman (Richard), Sylvia McGinnis (significant other, Steve) and Judy Haney (Mike); two special friends Matthew Palmatier (for 40 years) and Ricky Hicks; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his mother, Daisy McGinnis, he was preceded in death by: his first wife, Michelle Gunter; and one sister, Tressia Lynn McGinnis.

Pete worked as a Forman at Kentuckian Horse Farm for over 36 years. He was a caring father, a hard worker, and never had an enemy. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 6, 2025, between 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6, 2025, at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Barrier Cemetery.
