James Hurl Cowan was born November 14, 1928, and departed this life Monday, October 30, 2023, reaching the age of  94 years. He was the son of the late Clyde Ray and Kitty (Kelley) Cowan.

He married Phyllis Edwards and to this union two sons were born.

He is survived by: two sons, Randy Cowan (Susie) and Tim Cowan (Freda); six grandchildren, Vanessa Cooper, Jessica Constant, Tyler Matthew Cowan, Elizabeth Foster, Jeremiah Stinson, and Sarah Little; and nine great grandchildren, Maddox Cooper, Zephyr Constant, Bryce Catron, Brentley Foster, Katie Stinson, Evie Stinson, Jonah Stinson, Jett Little and Noah Little. He is also survived by his in-laws, Bobby Edwards (Helen), Nancy Perkins and Velda Edwards; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Clyde and Kitty Cowan, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Phyllis Cowan; two sisters, Emogene Holt and Naida Goff.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 between 5:00 pm – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 10 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
