James Bates was born March 16, 1938 and departed this life Monday, October 6, 2008 reaching the age of 70 years. He was the son of the late James Theo "Jim" and Daisy Edith (Melton) Bates.

He is survived by: 4 brothers- Charles, Sammy, and Danny Bates all of Monticello, KY, and Thomas Bates of Gas City, IN, 6 sisters- Josephine Kellogg of Ft. Wayne, IN, Thelma Lovell and Mary Upchurch of Monticello, KY, Edith Wesley of Gaston, IN, Shirley Lundy of Elwood, In, and Nancy Bates of Somerset, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: 2 brothers- William and Bobby Bates.

He was a loving brother, relative and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.


Visitation: Wednesday, October 8th after 6 pm
Funeral Service: Thursday, October 9th at 2 pm
Interment: Dodson Cemetery
