Jacqueline Holbrook Hay, age 86, of Springboro, Ohio, formerly a resident of Monticello, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the UC West Chester Hospital in West Chester, Ohio. Jacqueline was born November 29,1932 in Letcher County Kentucky to Minerva Bates and Curtis Holbrook.
Jacqueline, better known as Ms. Jackie, was an elementary school teacher in Wayne County Schools and taught at Walker Elementary. She retired in 1992 after 37 years of teaching. She obtained her teaching degree at Alice Lloyd College in 1951 at the age of nineteen and taught in one of the few remaining one room schoolhouses in Letcher County. After that she went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in teaching from Eastern Kentucky University in 1960.
Jacqueline was preceded in death by her mother Minerva Bates, father Curtis Holbrook, brothers Harold Holbrook, Leslie Holbrook, and Robert Hampton. She is survived by her sister Janice Isaac.
Jacqueline is survived by her three children: son, William (Nickie) Hay of Paducah, KY, son, Scott (Darla) Hay of Middletown, OH, daughter Brooke Hay of Springboro, OH; the father of her children, Billy E. Hay of Benton, KY, daughter-in-law Kim Hay of Benton, KY; four grandchildren: Jenifer, Maynor, Nathaniel, and Connor Hay, and one great grandchild, MaLlani Jones.
Jackie was a lifelong learner. She was an avid reader and enjoyed art museums and poetry. She loved being a teacher. Jackie was a very loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling and trips to the lake with her family. She had a great sense of humor and many friends over her lifetime. Jackie is very loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She attended First Baptist Church of Middletown, OH.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 24, 2019 between 11pm - 2pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 2 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
